about

Iona Sound explore and interpret folk material connecting Ireland, Scotland and Scandinavia. The Isle of Iona sits at the geographical epicentre of the Dál Riata kingdom, which linked Ireland and Scotland. There are also many Norse names and connections to Iona, reaching back to the time Scandinavian colonisers held all of the Hebrides.

Playing traditional folk pieces, Long Dances, Waltzes and Airs, Iona Sound let their melodic, harmonic interpretations breathe, and encourage the listener to drift off into thoughts about what lies “North of here…”

We also play the music of several living composers.
